In a recent survey commissioned by PureGym they found out that 1 in 3 office workers failed to meet the NHS recommended exercise quota of 2.5hrs and 71% of those workers cited work pressures as a reason for that deficit.
As cited on the health and safety executive website - Stress, depression or anxiety and musculoskeletal disorders, meant 15.4 million working days were lost in 2017/18 and a further 6.6 million days off were accounted for days lost due to work-related ill health. On average, each person suffering took around 16.5 days off work.
A further estimated 137 million working days were lost due to sickness or injury in the UK in 2016, according to a new report from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This was equivalent to 4.3 days per worker.
Shocking, for not only the employee but also the business, When like some businesses I have worked with, we work together to make a well being plan for their staff, giving staff greater well being and worth within the company. Bringing about better staff retention and holistic health (mind, body, spirit), for the working team benefiting both manager, employee and the business.
Having worked with large call centres and corporations, to bring about better wellbeing, by offering both inhouse and outhouse treatments. I would be in once a month offering onsite seated acupressure chair massage, Indian head massage and taking mindfulness meditation classes which employees booked upon and left their work stations to participate in. Others came to me for treatments which were subsidised by their employers, especially those returning to work after illness. Its about working together for a better working environment, health and well being. I also worked with small businesses, where a single staff member being off due to ill health can have serious impact on the business, as it can cost a fortune in temporary staff to replace them when targets need to be met. Even worse for existing team members if you need to suddenly get existing staff to do not only their work but the work of those absent, to keep the business flow going.
So there are many ways to work with staff well being. Do you hold a annual, quarterly staff well being event, we can come along and offer treatments for all areas of well being on site, and meditation classes for them to attend all in a normal working day. Offering sessions of 15-20 minutes and meditation classes of 30-40 mins so as many staff as possible can obtain the benefit of attending while we are in on a monthly basis.
